HISTORY   OF  HOGAN  –  HORAN  FAMILY

CATHERINE   HORAN  born Lusmagh area, Kings’s County Ireland,  about 1799 daughter of   JOHN  HORAN &
MARY FAHEY   or KILFAHEY. or even KILFILL
CATHERINE HORAN married JOHN HOGAN about 1825 in Kings County
Ireland.   JOHN HOGAN DIED in Kings County pre 1853.    CATHERINE HOGAN as a widow arrived in Melbourne Australia 22nd Jan. 1854 on the Ship “Boomerang”which sailed from Liverpool on 5th Nov 1853.   The ship carried 399 passengers of whom 10 died during the voyage.    The disposal record states that Catherine could read but not write and was a domestic and a Roman Catholic.     Catherine Hogan (nee Horan)  died 11th Feb. 1887 in Bendigo she is buried in the Old Bendigo Cemetry in an unmarked grave.
She had lived 34 years in Australia, and  was 88 years old.   Catherine owned a cottage in Bendigo and lived near her brother Joseph Horan, her sister Honora Mackins, her niece Honora Merrigan, also her son Patrick and his family (see below).

Callanan and Keogh Family

My great grandfather was Daniel Callanan born  about 28th June 1834, Limerick City, Co. Limerick, Ireland, son of Hugh Callanan and his wife Bridget Sheehan.

Daniel married Margaret Keogh, born about  24th July 1834. daughter of James Keogh and his wife Martha Brooknell.

Daniel Callanan and Margaret Keogh  were married in Cappamore, County Limerick  on 7th November 1854.    Their address was Dromsally, (or Dromsallagh), Cappamore, Limerick.

Witnesses:   John Keogh and Kearine Connors.

Cowie Tree Branches

(For cross reference to entries on this page see also My COWIE FAMILYTREE).

A legal document concerning our family, states that our James Cowe (Cowie) eldest son of John and Jane Cowe (Cowie) had a brother and I believe that the following John Cowie is that brother, from a memory of my father, who once told me there was a Hardwicke Cowie, but he didnt know if he was a relative or not, hence this entry.

Also the Cow Family of Cockburnspath where our early forbears came from on the Border, were all Presbyterians.

JOHN COWIE and HELEN RENNY (daughter of Henry Renny and Mary Henderson his wife) celebrated their Marriage 1-8-1802, Montrose, Angus, Scotland.

Helen Renny was born 24-12-1783 Montrose, Angus, Scotland.

Maud, Cowie, Families

Our Cowie Family,   united by Marriage with the Maud Family,  when Vandome Henry Cowie,  married Elizabeth Ann Maud,  between Apr-Jun 1864 in Hackney, London.

William Maud was born 25 Jan 1743, and died 1-12-1795 in Abercarne, Mynyddislwyn, Monmouthshire.   William Maud married Jane Morgan on 15th Feb. 1774 in Trevethin, Pontypool, Monmouthshire.   Jane Morgan Maud was born 15th jan 1746 and died 10 Jun 1815 in (Trosnant) Trevethin, Monmouthshire.

More details re William Maud. He was buried 4-12-1795, Trevethin Church, Pontypool, Monmouthshire.    His Last Will is dated 9-11-1795.   William Maud gentleman, Abercarne Iron Works.
